How to Get a Referral To Fullarton Clinic
Seeking mental health or addiction care is a significant step, and we’re here to make the process as clear and supportive as possible.
Our programs are designed specifically for adults (18+), ensuring the therapies, environments and support we offer are
tailored to adult mental health needs.
Why having a referral is important
A referral from a GP, Psychiatrist, or other health professional with a provider number helps ensure the care you receive is right for your needs.
It allows us to collaborate with your treating clinician and, in many cases, helps you access Medicare rebates or meet private health insurance requirements for admission.

Getting a referral is a simple step that helps ensure you receive the right type of care and support from the start.
We accept referrals from healthcare professionals—and in some cases, you can refer yourself.

Mental Health Admissions
To access inpatient mental health treatment at Fullarton Clinic, you’ll need a referral to a Psychiatrist who has admitting rights to Fullarton Clinic.
To secure this referral a good place to start is
- Your General Practitioner (GP)
- Your existing Psychiatrist (if you have one)
- Another treating health professional with a provider number including a nurse practitioner, psychologist or mental health social worker.
You can ask your GP or clinician to send a referral directly to our intake team, or you can bring the referral to us yourself.
Our team will review the referral, confirm program suitability, and arrange a clinical assessment.
If you need help getting a referral, contact our intake team, who will support you through the process.
Addiction Recovery Admissions
If you're seeking treatment for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, you can refer yourself to our Addiction Recovery Program.
Fullarton Clinic welcomes self referrals if you are wishing to be admitted for addiction treatment. However, to ensure you receive the full private health benefits, you will still need a referral for admission. This can be arranged through our intake team.
