Addiction Recovery Treatment Pathway

There are several ways you can access support at Fullarton Clinic for addiction care. You will first complete an assessment with an Addiction Specialist, who will work with you to determine the most appropriate care pathway based on your individual needs and recovery goals.

The diagram below outlines a typical entry pathway for addiction treatment at Fullarton Clinic. However, this may be adjusted to suit your personal circumstances—for example, if you are travelling from interstate for treatment and are unable to attend the Addiction Recovery Day Program after inpatient care.

These options match you with the right care for your individual Addiction needs and goals

Health Screening For Chronic Disease Management

Addiction can sometimes impact overall health.

This can be due to lifestyle factors, changes in employment and finances or other factors, which have resulted in inconsistent general health check ups. That's why at Fullarton Clinic, as part of our complete care approach, you will be screened for health issues associated with Addiction, such as Hepatitis and Diabetes.

If any conditions are identified, you will be provided with immediate access to medical care for any conditions that require treatment. Any outcomes will also be communicated with your GP to ensure continuity of care.

Be Part of a Community

Aside from participating in group and individual counselling and deepening your knowledge on Addiction Recovery, you will also have the ability to connect with other people, form valuable networks and above all support each other.

The Fullarton Clinic Community is built on connection, respect, and shared support. It’s a place where every person’s recovery journey is valued, and where patients and staff collaborate to create a safe, inclusive, and restorative environment.

Common Questions About Our Addiction Program

Understanding what to expect can make taking the next step feel easier. If you have more questions, our team is here to help.

1How long is the treatment?
The Inpatient Program runs for 28 days, including medical detox.
2What are the four stages of Addiction?
Addiction is a complex condition that typically progresses through four key stages: 1. Experimentation – Initial or occasional use, often influenced by social or environmental factors. 2. Regular Use – A pattern begins to form, with increasing reliance on the substance to cope with stress, emotions, or routine. 3. High-Risk Use – The substance begins to negatively affect your health, relationships, work, or finances, but use continues. 4. Dependence and Addiction – Physical or psychological dependence develops, and stopping use may lead to withdrawal or significant distress. At Fullarton Clinic, we meet you with compassion wherever you are in this journey, offering personalised treatment to support your recovery.
3What is the most successful treatment for Addiction?
Behavioural therapy, including acceptance commitment therapy (ACT) has been known as a beneficial approach for treatment of Addiction and is included in the program at Fullarton Clinic. Our Addiction Program combines a variety of evidence-based approaches, including individual and group therapy, light exercise, creative therapies, healthy food and learning skills to better manage your recovery from Addiction.
4Is the Addiction Recovery Program right for me?
If you're experiencing challenges with alcohol or drug use and need structured support, our program may be the right fit. Fullarton Clinic offers medically supervised detox and comprehensive rehabilitation in a private hospital setting. Whether this is your first time seeking help or you've tried before, we're here to support your recovery in a safe and respectful environment.
5Is the alcohol and drug treatment confidential?
Yes. We recognise that seeking support for Addiction can be a deeply personal decision, and privacy is essential. Fullarton Clinic provides discreet, evidence-based care in a private hospital. Your treatment is managed with the highest level of confidentiality and respect, from admission through to discharge and aftercare.
6Will I have my own room?
Yes. Fullarton Clinic is a purpose-built hospital and all patients stay in private rooms with an ensuite. Each space is thoughtfully designed to create a calm, comfortable environment that supports rest, recovery, and privacy.
7How can I get admitted into the Addiction Program?
You don’t need a referral to get in touch — but a referral is required for admission into our Addictions Program. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself or someone you care about, we’re here to help — without pressure or judgement. Self referral is welcome. Please complete the form or contact our team, and we’ll support you with an assessment, help coordinate the referral process, and connect you with a Psychiatrist.
8Can I get Addiction treatment if I am from interstate?
Yes. We understand that some patients may prefer or need to seek support outside their home state. Fullarton Clinic welcomes admissions from individuals across Australia. Whether you’re travelling from Sydney, Adelaide, Canberra, or another location, our hospital is conveniently located just 21km from Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne. We provide a safe and welcoming environment where all patients are treated with dignity, regardless of their background and location.
9What is the cost of Addiction Treatment?
As a private Mental Health Hospital, most patients use private health insurance to significantly reduce, if not cover the full cost of the treatment. If you don't have private health insurance, we offer alternative payment options. Contact our team to learn more about the costs of Inpatient Addiction Treatment.
10What happens after I leave the Addiction Recovery Program?
We offer aftercare support via our Day Program and Outpatient Consulting Services.
