Fullarton Clinic Mental Health Day Program

Stay supported and continue moving forward with your mental health

Mental Health Services Pathway

There are several ways you can access support at our hospital for mental health care, but to get started, you need a referral to a Psychiatrist with admitting rights to Fullarton Clinic. You can either ask your GP for a referral to one of our Doctors or contact our intake team, who will connect you with a Psychiatrist. Next, you will complete an initial assessment, which will determine the most appropriate care pathway based on your individual needs and mental health goals.

The diagram below outlines a typical entry pathway for Fullarton Clinic Mental Health Services. However, this may be adjusted to suit your personal circumstances—for example, if you are travelling from interstate for treatment and are unable to attend the Day Program after Inpatient care.

With these options, you’ll have continuous support to strengthen and improve your mental health.

An Opportunity for Continuous Support

Our Day Programs extend your learning and deepen your knowledge around how to best manage your mental health condition.

Programs are offered in flexible formats — including day, evening, and weekend sessions to suit different schedules. This approach is structured to deliver our patients' best possible clinical outcomes. The programs aim to build on the skills you acquired during Inpatient Treatment to continue with recovery and sustain your long term wellness.

Our Mental Health Day Programs are designed to transition smoothly from inpatient care to independent living — reinforcing recovery in a familiar and supportive environment.

Common Questions About Our Day Program

Below is a selection of frequently asked questions (FAQ's) about our Day Program.

1Who facilitates the Day Programs, and when are they held?
Our Day Program groups typically consist of 8 to 12 people and are led by experienced mental health professionals.
2Which group is the best fit for me?
The Mental Health Day Programs follow on from Inpatient Treatment. This means your treating doctor will likely recommend the Day Program that corresponds with your condition as the next step once you complete your Inpatient Program. It’s designed to provide consistent support as you transition back into daily life.
3How can I get started?
After you complete Inpatient Treatment, our team will guide you through the next steps. You’ll be supported with a clear plan to help you transition into the appropriate step down care, such as our Mental Health Day Program or other recommended options.
4Do I need private health cover?
Private health insurance is recommended and will often cover the cost of your treatment.
5Are meals provided during the Day Program?
Yes, all groups include a catered break of approximately 30 minutes. A selection of light meals is provided, with regular, vegetarian, and vegan options, along with tea, coffee, and juice. You’re welcome to enjoy your break in the rooftop garden or The Lounge within our dedicated Hummingbird Day Program area. Additional food and drinks can be purchased from Café Zenn.
6How long does each session run in the Day Program?
It’s important to allocate the full day for your Day Program attendance. Each day includes approximately 4.5 hours of active learning and therapeutic participation, with scheduled breaks. Drinks and meals are provided as part of the program.
7Where is Day Programs located?
Our Day Programs are held at Fullarton Clinic, which you'll already be familiar with, but in case, you'll find us at 8 Fullarton Dr, Epping, VIC 3076. Fullarton Clinic is just a short walk from The Northern Hospital Epping, and onsite parking is available for Day Program Patients. There is also additional street parking.
8Can I attend more than one Day Program at a time?
Yes, this may be possible if your private health fund permits it. As coverage varies between funds, we recommend contacting your insurer directly to confirm your eligibility.
9When does the process end?
Managing mental health is an ongoing journey, and everyone’s experience is different. The decision to complete treatment, including participation in Day Programs, is made in collaboration with your treating doctor—when you both feel the time is right.
